Imagination Library Out and About in the Community

On July 17, Imagination Library of Waco was invited by Literacy Connexus and Waco Housing Authority Community Services to their “Book Blast” event, bringing together community partners and residents at Estella Maxey Apartments (East Waco – 76704) for a book giveaway party at the community center. In addition to Imagination Library of Waco being onsite to enroll children to receive books every month, the Waco Police Department Neighborhood Engagement Team, Waco Fire Department, KCEN 6 News team, HEB, and Literacy Connexus read stories and helped attendees with fun crafts! There were special appearances from Clifford the Big Red Dog and H-E-Buddy; and – most importantly – families received around 750 books and reading resources to build their home libraries!

For a second year in a row, Imagination Library of Waco had a booth at Junior League’s Pre-K Awareness event in April. The fun event featured free admission to the Mayborn Museum for families with Pre-K students zoned for McLennan County public schools. Community organizations were in attendance to provide helpful information for children, and each Pre-K eligible child that attended received a free t-shirt and a Pre-K readiness kit.

Community outreach is critical to enroll children in Imagination Library. Our organization thanks Junior League and Literacy Connexus for inviting us and we look forward to participating again next year.
